THE NEW RESIDENCE FOR GIRLS IN NERAL IS READY!

The residence centre in Neral (near Mumbai, Maharashtra) for girls in difficult situations, financed with contributions from our donors, is having its installations prepared and improved thanks to your help.

In the photo you can see the new beds that have been bought and check their good quality. On 11th November Luis and Silvia commented, “What a shame that you couldn’t see the faces of the girls when the beds were delivered. The truth is that the very idea of sleeping in beds was very emotional for them. For many it is the first time that they have slept in beds. It was a beautiful moment.”

Moreover, mosquito screens have been installed on all the windows, made-to-measure desks have been ordered so that the girls can study with greater concentration and we have also just installed made-to-measure wardrobes so that they can store their personal belongings.

Another significant improvement, one which has taken a lot of effort, has been the installation, this November, of new water pipes to connect the centre with the state water supply. Furthermore, the cisterns are running at full capacity.

The works to condition the paths around the house also started at the end of November and the installation of a main gas line was completed at the beginning of December, which now means that all the girls can eat at the same time.

The next future project is the purchase of a generator to provide electricity to the residence during the power cuts, which happen on a daily basis in this part of Maharashtra and can last a long period of time (public electricity only works for a few hours a day.)
